Katie Runyon

The official blog of

fantasy author Katie Runyon.

As the title states, there hasn’t really been anything interesting happening recently. I still haven’t had time to read my second book that I had bought a few weeks ago, but eventually I will. I am now trying to do a little editing for the almost 14 chapters that I have written now. I have A LOT of re-writing to do to fix it up. Of course I wish I knew some of the stuff that I know now, when I began writing; it would have made things a little easier. At least I know when it comes time to write my next book, I will be a little more prepared.

Hopefully around the beginning of next year, there will be a big change around this site. For right now, I will keep the details to myself and fill everyone in when things are a little more concrete. It could happen sooner, but it can also happen later. I am looking forward to the change, I love changing things :)

As for something a little more off-topic, some new shows have started and some are soon to be in the next few weeks. I am looking forward to many of them (Yes, I know I am supposed to be reading and writing and spending less time watching TV, but it just can’t be helped). One of the shows that have already started is Nip/tuck. I like the season so far, so we’ll have to see how the rest pans out. There is of course the long-running series ER, which is ending after this season. Many others on my list include: Crossing Jordan, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and CSI.

Well that’s all for now, at least I posted something :)

I have finally finished the book and now am able to give it a review. I will have to say, after trying my hand at writing fantasy, when I now read fantasy books I look at them a little differently. The first chapter or two started off a little slow. At first I wasn’t too keen on the new characters Feist was adding to the series, but I grew to like them. Even though it was very brief, I was happy to see Erik. I had enjoyed his character in the earlier books. I also enjoyed the return of Talwin, another character I had grown fond of.

I have to admit, I did chuckle a few times and after I got through the beginning, I didn’t want to put it down. Since I have read most of his earlier books, I knew most of the characters and their previous adventures. Of course I can not say many bad things about the book, obviously since I now own two dozen of his books I enjoy the characters and the stories he writes. I am curious where he is going with this series. The book has only began to open a door to the beginning of the feared invasion.

Since I am writing my own fantasy novel, I tried to pay attention to the writing and how he makes you care for the characters and even chuckle at times. My wish it to be able to do the same. I guess it also comes with many years of writing and having the readers go through many experiences with the same characters, so you feel like you know some of them and understand their more obscure jokes and habits.

All in all, it was a good read and I will of course suggest others to read it. Now I can move on to the next book and hopefully give another quick (and most likely positive) review.

On another note, I was able to get in the tiniest bit of writing yesterday and hope to still get a little in today. I guess we’ll have to see how things go.

I have been doing a lot of work on the website the past few days. The forum has had many changes, including a newly added calendar. Someone reported that the calendar on this blog was overlapping and blocking the entries. So I took out the column that was on the far right and moved the navigation items towards the bottom of the left column. I tried to move the middle section, the one that shows all the blog entries, over so the problem would not occur again. It is hard to say if it will happen again, but I hope not.

It is hard to make everything work in all browsers. Some browsers display the information differently, but I try to make everything work for the most common browsers. If you encounter a problem; text being blocked, sidebars having gaps, links not working, please let me know either by e-mailing me at: katierunyon@gmail.com or posting in the forum or even here. Make sure to include what browser you are using. It is impossible for me to check every page on every browser to make sure it works, so that would be a huge help.

I have added many more avatars for the forum and if you do not see one that is what you want, let me know and I will do my best to find some to your liking.

I haven’t had much time to get very far into the book I am reading, so the review might take a lot longer than I expected.
