Well it has been twenty days since my last post, so I guess I should post a little something. Not too much has been going on (at least not good). I’ve had a cold that’s lasted forever and of course that sucked. Then if that was not enough, I was doing some major editing yesterday and what do you know, my laptop shuts off when I walk away for a few minutes. Expecting something like this, I made sure to save religiously (especially before I walked away). So when I booted it back up, I wasn’t expecting any problems. Boy was I wrong. When I tried to open the chapter I was editing, I got an error: “The document name or path is not valid…”. I tried this and I tried that, nothing worked. I did some searching and installed this update and this thingamabob, but no luck. So I walk away angry and put off, knowing that I had my fill of editing and my laptop for the day.

Today I figured I would try again. I did a little more searching and found something that seemed promising, if I could actually open the file. So I try using what it said and improvising but the first of the few suggestions didn’t work. After much trial and error, I find that if I opened it up in Notepad, after a lot of squares and random letters way down, are my edits. Anything that I had changed yesterday was there. The problem is, that’s all it is. The edits are not in the story where they belong, but placed on the bottom, where anything I typed in is an incoherent jumble. I’ll give you an example:

So some parts are whole sentences, some just one word, and so on. This is some help though, especially in the half a page of a new POV that I was adding, because I know exactly where it belongs. As for the other stuff, it will take me some time to figure out where it goes. This is still better then having to do it all over again, but I still wish I could figure out how to get it working in Word. If anyone has any advice or knowledge in this, I’d be glad for it.
