fantasy author Katie Runyon.

I am glad/proud/amazed to report that chapter 19 is now complete and up if anyone wants to check out the latest. The beginning seems a little choppy to me, but I’ll worry more about that in the revision stage. Right now, I want to keep on track and get the last chapter finished. I can’t believe I am so close! Even if some people hate my work, it’s the ones who keep reading that make it worth wild. I love the fact that people are reading my story and are actually enjoying it. Of course when you’re writing a story, you think it’s great. But it’s nice to know that others like it just as much too. I don’t dislike the ones who point out its flaws. Even though I love it, I know it’s far from perfect. But I hope with time, and help, that I can bring it to the point where it’s close.

Soon, after the last punctuation mark ends my very first story, I will be searching for some beta readers to go through it with a fine tooth comb. Opening it up to others, especially to rip apart, makes me nervous and excited. I can’t wait to hear back what people have to say. Which parts they liked or if a certain conversation made them laugh. But then there are also those comments about your characters being to cookie cutter or not having enough description. Either way, I love to hear what someone else has to say about it. I often forget that others don’t know my story as I do. They haven’t been submersed in the world, on and off, for over the past two years. There are little things that I forget to mention in the story because my mind thinks the readers know it since I already do. I just want people to get so caught up in the story, that they can imagine themselves in it and it takes them away from reality if only for a little while. That is what drew me to fantasy and to books. They are an escape from reality, where anything can and will happen.

I hope people keep an open mind. Some might not like mushy gushy romance, but you never know, it could touch your heart. So may think that wizards and magic are geeky and childish, but it might catch your imagination. There is a reason Fantasy is so popular. It is a story about wondrous things happening, usually to the average Joe/Jane. In Fantasy, especially, anyone can become anything.

Like most other writers, I have high hopes for the future. I don’t think I’ll be the next Tolkien or Anne Rice, but I do have hope that one day my book will have a spot in a book store somewhere, where someone might actually pick it up and buy it. Alls I want is for people to read and enjoy my work and inspire them as the books I read while I was growing up. If I can accomplish that, then my soul can rest.

Now that I rambled on a lot more than I planned and am having an off day with my keyboard, I hope to finish the last chapter by my 23rd birthday (Dec. 1st). 23 seems to be a reoccurring number with me, so lets hope it sticks around and brings me luck!
